Designed by Pete Dye, Luana Hills is carved out of a jungle on the eastern side of Oahu. With the Koolau Mountains in the background, the scenery is constant, and so is the treachery. For first-timers, the golf course can be intimidating, and it plays way longer than its posted 6,600 yards. In fact, even top players usually play it one tee up because of the difficulty of the shots.
Still, if you can get by the front nine with a reasonable score, there are opportunities on the back nine, which sits in a valley and is more protected from the wind. Patience here is the key. Bring plenty of golf balls and Luana Hills Golf and Country Club will be an experience you won't soon forget.
