Poipu Kapili resort offers intimate Hawaii excursion

POIPU, Hawaii - When the Turner Network Television broadcasting crew covers the Grand Slam of Golf every year at Poipu Bay Golf Club, they could choose to stay at any of the world famous resorts on the island of Kauai. In eight of the past nine years, they chose a small resort that's big on personal service called Poipu Kapili.

Operated by Poipu Ocean View Resorts, Poipu Kapili has 60 luxurious condos on a five-acre oceanfront property. The setting is serene and intimate to the point that guests at the neighboring Hyatt often remark on how quiet the beach and swimming pools are at the smaller resort.

Inside, the condos' kitchens are stocked with utensils and appliances that would make Emeril Lagasse proud. Each unit has an open-air lanais and an ocean view. On the inside, the mahogany furnishings add a classy touch. But it's the personal service that allows Poipu Kapili to maintain a high percentage of repeat customers.

"Our goal is to ensure that every guest feels well cared for at all times," said Buff Talon, owner of Poipu Ocean View Resorts. "Anything you need, we're here."

What about golf? The resort offers a "Tee it Up" package that includes two rounds of golf for a five to seven day trip that ranges from slightly more than $2,000 to $3,000 per pair or foursome. The rounds are booked at the aforementioned Poipu Bay Golf Club, a Robert Trent Jones design that is set between lush mountains and rugged ocean bluffs. The package includes a rental car, golf hat and bag tags.

Off the golf course, Kauai offers spectacular snorkeling, swimming, surfing, sunbathing and fine dining all within minutes of the resort.
