Prince - Great course. Excellent layout. Greens could be faster. A little impaired by recent rainy weather.
Definitely a top 100 course (and I belong to one so I would know). Difficulty is definitely driven by the wind. And it blew. There are some good scoring holes. Shot placement crucial on some holes. Buy a book so you know how to play it as there aree a few blind holes and shots. Greens were smooth but should have been faster. Overall course condition was excellent although there were about 3 holes that suffered from the rain.
Checked off the bucket list
Accuracy is a must, spectacular views all around the course with wind and rain to add a little more challenge. As someone stated previously, the tee boxes were uneven but we just moved back a bit to find level ground. Located on the northern portion of the island, expect a little wetness so bring your raingear. We were originally scheduled to play on Wednesday but it was cart path only and we went back and played on Friday. The wind played about 2-3 club difference which was similar to the winds we encountered in Maui last year at the King Kamehameha Golf Club. This wind really penalizes you when there is a shift of the wind or the gusts died down, very frustrating. New touchscreen GPS on the cart helps when you are on the cart path only holes. Don't let the price dismay you, well worth the money.
Highly enjoyable yet challenging round, definitely want to come back
first impression of the clubhouse was that it was eerily quiet and so posh/upscale/older that it was almost uncomfortable. but because of that you do feel like you are the only ones out on the course and that the service you do get is quite personalized. Quality of the driving range and putting green were great, the starter was extremely knowledgeable, which kicked off a great round. I had heard the course was challenging but was expecting to not really enjoy this type of challenge ("you will lose your handicap in balls, etc"). I was dead wrong. The course was beautiful and a joy to take on, and incredibly challenging in an enjoyable way. Would definitely want to play again next time I visit Princeville.
Challenging, Not for high handicappers
Course: Simply the most beautiful course I've played on (and I've played all over the US). Carry a camera coz you'll want to re-live the moments. Course condition was great tee to green. Lots of trouble on pretty much every hole, so you are bound to loose a few balls for low handicappers and many balls for high handicappers. High tech gps on the carts also help a lot coz it tells you distandes to pretty much any spot by a simple touch. The only problem I had was that the greens were super slow. Rolled true but you had to hit the ball hard even on downhill putts.
Service: simply exceptional from the moment you enter the club house to the moment you drive off. Very friendly staff and if you listen to the Marshall, ou might save yourself some strokes.
Definitely recommended
Great scenic course with some extremely difficult holes. Undulating fairways and greens make it even more intimidating, however worth it! Go enjoy.
One of the best courses I have played, compares well to the Plantation Course on Maui. Every hole has it's own challenge and opportunity depending on your skill level. Don't get distracted by the most beautiful & scenic views of the Pacific Ocean in your face! If you manage your game play and the course layout you will thoroughly enjoy this pristine course design, layout and the undulating fairways and greens. If you do some course management (with your game) you really don't need to bring too many extra balls; a little over stated. It was a good day for me -didn't lose any balls. A little pricey but worth the experience, the staff is exceptional and super friendly.
Absolutely fantastic!
A fantastic experience. The course is very challenging requiring the player to play target golf. If you maintain discipline in shot making, you can score well. The course is in great shape and offers many great views of the coast and ocean. Staff is extraordinarily helpful. All carts have gps touchscreen which is very useful in playing target golf.
Beautiful and challenging
Gorgeous views and beautiful landscape make a very challenging course a wonderful experience. Bring a healthy supply of golfballs.
Challenging and fun layout. Poorly maintained.
Tee boxes were not level on a number of holes even after being completely re-done. Greens are super firm and hard to hold the approach shot at times. Fairways and teeboxes are in very bad shape on many holes which was really disappointing. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Really want to like this course, it's just not good on the value scale.
Picturesque, breathtaking, challenging, enjoyable and friendly
You cannot find a course with more diverse views in the U.S. than the Prince course in Princeville, HI. Spectacular and challenging. Do not miss this one!
bucket list course you wont need to play twice.
this course will have you laying up on par 4s when the landing area for your driver seems to be the size of a green. back 9 was beautiful, front 9 kind of average as you're playing thru a community of small houses. gets compared to the Plantation course in maui often.not even the same category. Plantation is SO epic and princeville is a red-headed stepchild by comparison
Humbling experience!
Challenging course with memorable coastal views. Afternoon winds increase degree of difficulty.
Challenging and very scenic...bring spare balls and a camera.
Played the Prince for over 20 years. Unfortunately Kauai
is suffering thru a mild drought thus fairways are not as
plush as normal. Also they redesigned the greens last
year and they still relatively hard and thus not receptive to holding shots. Moreover, Robert Trent decided to add
some new undulations in the greens several of which
are rather severe.
Still the Prince offers spectacular views of the oceans
and North shore mountains. Morevover it is a challenging
and intriguing track which requires solid shots to find
the fairways and greens. In summary bring your camera
and spare balls.
Course is very nice, but too many shots where you can't judge distances
The course is great, but probably not for the every day golfer. There are a LOT of shots that you really can't judge the layup or that have hidden hazards that leads to frustration when you hit what you think is a good shot and you get penalized for it. The HAPPY HOUR in the clubhouse from 4-5 PM though is the BEST on the Island though... Make sure to get the Ahi Poke. The staff is unbelievable and the facilities are 1st class. I personally prefer the Makai Course at the St. Regis which is just down the street which has some stunning holes along and over the ocean and is a bit more "playable"...
The Prince Course has a new improved look.
My favorite course in Hawaii re-opened after being closed for a year long renovation .
A lot of the vegetation has been cut back giving the course a new look on quite few of the holes.
The greens are the best they have ever been and the fairways are in good shape.
Pace of play was very good and the staff is extremely helpful if it's your first time playing the Prince.
It still remains a very challenging course that results in quite a few aloha balls during the round.
Golfing in the kingdom
One of the best experiences I have had in Hawaii. Staff was more than friendly and when I hurt my back on the range, they were more than helpful. Told me to play whenever i could and gave me time to let the ibuprofen work. The course was empty and beautiful and challenging and I took my time and had a great time (save my back). I'm a 3 handicap, and this course will be one of my favorites. I stayed in Hanalei Bay and played it 2 times. One of the best and funnest courses in Kauai.
The updates to this course make it much more playable for the average golfer
I have played this course several times over the years and found it to be in the best shape this year than the last time I played it. The greens are much improved and the fairways more receptive for the lay golfer.
